A Unique One-Year Learning Opportunity in Medication Error Prevention
ISMP Fellowships are a challenging and rewarding experience offering a clear enhancement to career growth. ISMP Fellows have a unique opportunity to make a tangible difference in medication safety, and find new medication safety opportunities in healthcare systems, regulatory agencies, the pharmaceutical industry, and ISMP. Graduates of the program have been sought for employment in medication safety positions in healthcare systems, regulatory agencies, the pharmaceutical industry, and ISMP. After their year with ISMP, Fellows are well equipped to become leaders in the fight to prevent medication errors and adverse events, regardless of the practice area they choose.
Ochsner Children's & ISMP Safe Medication Management Fellowship
The Ochsner Children's & ISMP Safe Medication Management Fellowship is a one-year program beginning in the summer of 2025. This Fellowship offers a pharmacist the unparalleled opportunity to learn from and work with some of the nation’s top experts in medication safety, while supporting medication safety initiatives and error prevention strategies in pediatrics at Ochsner Health.
This fellowship requires working on site at Ochsner Health in New Orleans, LA, with additional remote work with ISMP.

Candidate Qualifications
Fellows have the opportunity to:
Gain valuable experience through networking with pharmaceutical, healthcare, legislative, and
regulatory communities.
Assist in investigating errors reported to national error reporting programs.
Provide follow-up to manufacturers and regulators after learning about safety hazards.
Learn about medication-system problems and prevention programs around the world.
Participate in original research and surveys on medication errors and prevention.
Apply the techniques of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to understand where/when errors are most likely to occur and to help prevent them.
Help perform site visits and safety consultations in different healthcare delivery settings.
Collaborate in the development of educational events and materials.
Write and/or review information for continuing columns in journals and ISMP’s medication safety newsletters.
