Understanding the Basics of PSO Protections
Overview
Healthcare providers can protect sensitive patient safety information and create a learning system for improvements by being part of a Patient Safety Organization (PSO). PSOs provide federal levels of protection for providers that preempt state protections. This protection enables providers to mitigate patient safety risks by creating a culture where providers and encouraged to talk openly about safety improvements. The federal Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act, created in 2005, established a system of Patient Safety Organizations (PSOs) and the structures to support patient safety.
Learn about how your organization can benefit from the protections available through PSOs. In this webinar, attorney Andy Bolin of Bolin Law Group discussed the legal protections afforded to providers under the Act and the importance of engaging with a PSO. He also dissected real-world cases to explain the protections available to healthcare organizations including hospitals, ambulatory care, ambulatory surgical centers, and long-term care.
