Healthcare Workers Need Support from Leaders During Emotional Turmoil of Pandemic

The Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) special edition of the ISMP Medication Safety Alert!® acute care newsletter this week highlights the need to address the stress, anxiety, exhaustion, and depression healthcare workers are facing due to taxing workloads and the constant vigilance required to care for COVID-19 patients during this public health crisis. Recommendations on how healthcare leaders can help better support them are provided, including tips on creating “safe havens,” communicating transparently, and encouraging self-care.

In addition, this special edition includes insight and tips on:

  • High dose IV ascorbic acid interference with glucometer results

  • Trends with medication errors related to COVID-19

  • Value of rapidly deploying P&T subcommittees

  • MRI-safe pump for COVID-19 patients in ICU

  • Need to use electronic vs. paper versions of guidelines

The special edition newsletters are being made available for free to the general public as well as subscribers. To access a copy, click here. Please note that access may require free registration.
