Ivyruth Andreica, BSN, PharmD, FISMP
Ivyruth Andreica, PharmD, BSN is a Medication Safety Consultant. Dr. Andreica is a graduate of Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Texas Woman’s University. She has both critical care nursing and pharmacy experience. As a critical care nurse, she worked in progressive environments taking care of patients with complex disease states. As a pharmacist, she practiced as a clinical pharmacist in diverse roles including inpatient operations, in an oncology clinic, and in the emergency department of a Trauma 1 hospital.
As a fellow of the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (2014-2015), Dr. Andreica has a unique background that enables her to relate to both the nursing and pharmacy professions throughout the medication delivery process. She has a special interest in medication errors, their intersection with clinical care, and mitigations to reduce patient harm. Her research interests relate to technology-related system-level solutions that may reduce errors across the healthcare continuum. Dr. Andreica is published in the areas of clinical pharmacy, medication errors related to infusion devices, and bar code administration systems as well as potential solutions to some of the infusion-related issues. She is also an active member of the Medication Safety Officers Society and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
